A Guide to Sex Education for Children

Although authorities have already seen the need and importance to educate children about sex, involved parties particularly parents and teachers still see the challenge in teaching these kids about a sensitive matter without doing more harm than good. If left uneducated and misinformed about the matter, children may have a wrong perception about sex and may just engage in promiscuous sexual activities. The worst scenario is they may end up being positive with STD as diagnosed by testing center such as STD Testing Pennsylvania. Indeed, the children are not that naive thus they should be properly informed.

If you are still clueless on how to go about sex education with the young minds, here are a few guidelines to make you start on the right track.

  • Always remember that children are naturally inquisitive and curious. They will always seek for answers to their questions. If your child or student asks you how babies are made, you should make an effort to provide them with a clear answer. If your answer does not sound clear to them, they will search for the answers themselves. They may end up experimenting or asking from unreliable sources.
  • When your child reaches puberty, talk to him or her about the changes that take place in their bodies and what these changes mean.
  • Teach your child to ask for privacy. As soon as your child or student reaches puberty, emphasize privacy by separating girls and boys in the bedroom, having separate bathrooms and disallowing girls to change or to take off their clothes in front of the boys.
  • Teach your child how to protect himself or herself from harassment. Carefully explain to your child or student that it is bad to hold or touch another person’s body and he or she should not allow anybody to do that to him or her as well. Kissing somebody else should also be discouraged.
